A Guitar Night in Alliance Française
It has become a tradition for DCGO to perform at the auditorium of Alliance Française every year at the end of March. This year’s concert was held on Thursday, the 27th of March at 7:30pm and it was inspiring and successful.
Sometimes all that can go wrong will go wrong, but not this time. Murphy’s Law failed and all went well. Acoustic of the theatre, stage setup, printing of the concert programme, attendance, passionate but disciplined playing, soloists, recording equipment, etc, everything was top-notch.
Our special thanks to Tala Badri – flute, Sophie Stephanou – flute and Donya Bonyadi – mezzo soprano, for their participation as soloists. We thank good people of Alliance Française for letting us use their fabulous auditorium.

Julian Byzantine in Dubai with DCGO
In January 2008, the Dubai Classical Guitar Orchestra was honoured by the visit of internationally acclaimed guitarist Julian Byzantine who has performed in prestigious venues worldwide and worked with eminent composers and musicians. Part of his visit to Dubai included a workshop with the orchestra and 6 individual orchestra members. The following is a record of that event.
Centre for Musical Arts Opening Gala
Visitors of Opening Gala of Centre for Musical Arts new venue in Dubai's Gold an Diamond Park enjoyed a memorable evening of music performed by Centre's students and staff. The event was opened by DCGO performing Valentin Spasov's arrangement of UAE National Anthem, followed by several popular songs from our standard repertoire. Other soloists, orchestras and groups, associated with the school, contributed their piece of beauty playing tunes from Beethoven, Classical Arabic, or even Abba's “Money, Money” and Disney's “The Lion King”. This just demonstrated a cultural diversity that Dubai can enjoy. Indeed, by promoting arts, the city is enriching its soul.
DCGO Getting Ready to Perform
DCGO is associated with the Centre. Valentin, our conductor, and 2 of our key players, Radost and Jessica, are teachers in the Centre. Most of us are Centre's students, although this is not prerequisite. It is impressive to recapitulate what our host house has achieved during last 2 years. It all started with 3 teachers and now the number has increased to over 20. The new Gold and Diamond Park site has 12 sound-proof teaching studios, large ensemble room and a music shop. We wish all the best to the Centre and its staff and, of course, more and more red-gold ribbon cutting ceremonies in the future.
At the end, although we played outdoor and our instrument favors smaller, more intimate, spaces, everything went rather well thanks to the excellent sound system. We had 12 microphones positioned exactly where they should be and adjusted to exactly correct volume and height without annoying acoustic feedback. I wish we have such sound engineers on all our concerts. One big “Thank You” goes to them from all DCGOers.
